Are There Future Plans For Development? |
When the base property was turned over to the Port of Tillamook Bay, it
was determined that the local economy would be best served by an industrial park.Since all of the infrastructure needed for this kind of use already existed, very little had to be done. Today however, the port has taken an aggressive role in developing the base and its surrounding areas. Currently on the drawing board is a new golf course, complete with a hotel and various resort facilities. Ground has already been broken near the south end of the runways. More controversial though, is the new plan to build a methane digester. It is hoped that this plant will generate much needed revenue, by producing methane from the abundance of manure generated by the county's active dairy industry. There are many rivers, creeks, and streams in the area, so there is a natural concern that this may upset the local ecosystem. The Department of Energy is now finalizing its report. |
