Is The Base Open To The Public? |
Because the base was only constructed as a temporary
war-time facility, the property was returned for civil use after the war. Today, the Port of Tillamook Bay manages this
property, which means that much of it is open for exploration.Of course, this doesn't grant you the right to wander wherever you please. Much of the original base is currently leased for private use, and there are several No Trespassing signs posted to help guide you. With this said, please use common sense not only for your own protection, but out of respect for these tenants. Hangar B is the crown jewel of any planned tour, and most of your time will probably be spent there anyway. Inside of this historic hangar, is a private museum dedicated to restoring vintage aircraft. There are also numerous media presentations, and a new gallery featuring NAS Tillamook during the war years. |
