How Many People Were Stationed Here?

Aerial Photo of NAS TillamookLike most airship bases of the period, NAS Tillamook had an active personnel roster that varied wildly. It was not uncommon for people to transfer between stations as needed, but the generally recognized average figure was around 1,200 persons at any given point in time.

The station had a compliment of U.S. Marines, which numbered around 60 men. They functioned independent of the station personnel, and their role was to provide security. In addition, there were numerous civilian employees, and a contingent of WAVE's, who handled various administrative and service-related tasks.
