How Large Were The Navy K-Class Blimps?

Blimp In Hangar BAlthough the K-class airships were modified several times throughout World War II, the majority of these blimps were a little under 252 feet long. Their gas envelope had a total volume of 425,000 cubic feet, which provided for a useful lift capacity of around 7,770 pounds. In order to present you with a fair comparison of size, the average Goodyear blimp of today is only 190 feet long.

In 1995, the American Blimp Corporation was still leasing a portion of Hangar B for its operations. To the right, is a picture of one of these blimps (which is barely 1/2 the size of the old K-ships).

It's interesting to note the relative size of the tour bus parked near this blimp. The control car (or gondola) of each WWII airship, was roughly comparable in size.
