What's The Story Behind The Basketball Hoop In Hangar B?

Basketball Hoop In Hangar BSeveral years ago when the Tillamook Air Museum changed hands, a Hi-Lift truck was leased to complete some renovation work in the blimp hangar. Since the museum is a for-profit corporation, they were naturally looking for new ways to generate additional revenue and increase publicity.

Jokingly, the idea to mount a basketball hoop above the hangar's 120 foot high doors, was propsed. It was originally hoped, that Nike (headquartered in nearby Beaverton, OR) would see the humor and marketing potential in such a ploy.

Unfortunately for the museum, neither Michael Jordan nor any other pro-player was filmed "shooting hoops", as Nike was not the least bit interested. Ironically, the hoop of wonder still remains, albeit, the joke is now on the museum.
