Can The Hangars Create Their Own Weather? |
This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions
about the hangars, and it's certainly the oldest. Because few people had ever seen such an immense free-span structure
prior to the war, rumors were bound to crop up sooner or later. It was pretty common for newbies at the base to be "initiated", by convincing them that it not only rained in the hangars, but that thunderstorms could occur also! Unfortunately this is one story that refuses to die, but there may be a little truth here. Because of the large volume of cool air inside of the hangars, on a rare occasion, warm humid air from outside, would condense (especially if the doors were not opened for a long period of time). This would cause small droplets of water to form on the interior surfaces, and these droplets would occasionally fall below. It's easy to see how this rumor came about, but even so, this could hardly be considered rain. |
