Although the Catalina was considered obsolete by World War II, she continued to serve an extremely valuable role. The PBY-5A was usually armed with two .50 inch machine guns, three .30 inch machine guns, and a bomb, torpedo, or depth charge payload of up to 4,000 lbs.
