Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina Wing Image Source: Personal Collection

The original version of the Catalina, featured two 900-hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830-64 engines. By the time the PBY-5A made her debut, these engines had been upgraded to the more powerful 1200-hp R-1830-92. This enhancement provided for a maximum speed of 179 m.p.h.
