Because the U.S. Navy was so impressed with original T-28 flight trainer, in 1952 they asked North American to produce an upgraded model for its replacement. The new 'B' version was soon re-equipped with a 1,425 h.p. Wright R-1820 engine, which rotated a 3-bladed propeller.
