My
Mother, Jacquelyn Jo Finney, was an operator on the base phone switchboards
during WWII. She is still alive and has a few pictures from that time. We will
be in the Tillamook area on the weekend of October 15, 2005 and plan on
stopping by the base and museum. Let me know if you would be interested in
talking with her. She grew up in Rockaway Beach - this will likely be her final
trip back to that area. Thanks |

retired career Naval Aviator. I flew Spads (AD, later A1 series) 1953-1961 in
VA-75 and as an instructor at Advanced Flight Training in Corpus Christi. I
will be visiting Tillamook later this month and will stop by the museum to see
your AD-4. Sorry, no lighter than air stories other than sipping a little
helium once while blowing up baloons for the kids. |

visited the museum five times and it keeps getting better. I have photos when
there were two hangers before one burnt, and pictures of small jet and pilot
before accident. I can forward some if interested. |

I
lived on the base in the Sixties when my father was with the Job Corps. We
lived in what you called base quarters D. My bedroom was the upstairs one
facing the street. Other Job Corp families lived in the other living quarters.
The base was a kid's paradise. It saddens me to see a lot of the buildings have
fallen in to disrepair. I will look through my old photos to see if I have any
you might be interested in. |

this geography project 4 school, and i was hoping if you would list what
materials the following would me made out of: envolope nose corn batterns
forward ballonet aft ballonet catenary curtain suspension cables flight control
surfaces engine air scoops air valve helium valve gondola If its like older
model like used in WW2, it would be still very helpful, I serach on the net 4

I hope
that nothing ever happens to the hanger, it's really a piece of history. The
times I have been there, I have just sat and let the building talk to me and I
could almost hear the things that would have gone on there during the war. The
smell of the fir and a bit of old rubber and grease completes the memory.
