Comments:
I lived about 10 miles northwest of the Houma, LA blimp base (as we liked to call it as younsters during WW 2). It was a beautiful sight to see the blimps in the air on a clear day, and overhead as they practiced their flying along Highway One (north of Raceland). It brings back memories of a scary time for a youngster of 10-13. Vivid remembnrance of men in uniform coming to Raceland for the Jitney Dances at Labat's, Pavillion, and T-Mon's (on weekends especially). It was a treat for my father to take us for a ride to Chauvin right past the base, to see the blimps and aircraft stationed there. I really enjoyed your site, and thanks for the memories!

My father was a mechanic on the base back in 1942 - 1944. If you have a picture of Lloyd R. Hunt, I would love getting a copy.

I grew up on Robinson Rd. The road right next to the blimp base. I use to roam around that place alot when I was young. Those are pretty good pictures. I actually got to go in the building that burned down in 1995, before it was burnt. It had a full basketball court and an olympic size pool; also had a large Bar. Friends and I would climb those large towers, you could see for miles. Now none of this was approved. When my parents would find that we were out there... it wasn't nice, I'll tell you that!
