with a developer, and we are working on plans to preserve the North Blimp
Hanger at Tustin MCAS. I'd love to talk with anyone who has recent experience
with the Tillamook renovation, maintenance or operations. tmessmer@irg.cc

Comments: While
looking thru 'airlines.net', I stumbled on the airplanes of Oregon. While
enjoying it I have a GREAT surprise. I worked for the University of Alaska from
March 1969 to March 1971, at the Navel Arctic Research Laboratory as the
A&P mechanic. We had 4 Cessna 180's and 2 Navy R4D's. It is a real joy to
see the picture of N2146Z. I worked and flew in this plane for the two years.
Is it still there in the museum? Do you have all the log books? If so, do you
also know what happened to, or the where abouts of N2145Z? One of these birds
was left on the ground at the mouth of the Colvil river the last time I saw
her. She had a broken wing and a landing gear torn out of the gear box due to
hitting a chunk of snow. You have no idea how much this has perked up me today.
I have been here at Boeing in Portland for 25 years and it will be a great
thrill to see her again. Please let me know if she is still there. Sincerely,
Bill Garrett PS One of the pilots who flew (I gave him ground instruction on
how & what to do with a ski plane) is now a pilot with Boeing in Seattle.
He has flown the Boeing 247 and the B 17 for the Museum in seattle. He was the
Chief Test Pilot for the 767-400 test program. His name is Buzz Nelson. He has
had a very interesting flying career. The Naval Arctic Research Lab was at Pt.
Barrow. I was ther 3 years ago and it sure has changed. |
