Comments: I was
stationed at MCAF Santa Ana, (LTA) during 1961-63 with various Marine
helicopter squadrons. It was a great duty station due to its prime location
close to the Pacific Ocean and good liberty. It was an exciting day during this
period when an Alabama Air National Guard T-33 jet landed on the runway by
mistake. He had flamed out and was trying to reach El Toro Marine Air Base a
few miles east of or base. He used up all the runway and then some ending up in
a pepper field. We painted it with our squadron colors and it had to be
disassembled and trucked to El Toro for repair and take off. See our squadron
website to read of the history of this squadron, with emphasis on action in
Vietnam. |

Comments: Hi! I
am currently attending an art college in Britain, and part of our end of term
project is to do a piece about a subject that had a problem (a piece that we
can research), and that the problem was resolved and how. I came across your
website and I have been reading about the aircraft problem and found it very
interesting and thought it would make the perfect project to be assessed.
Because I have to research the subject and look more into the problems and how
they were solved I wondered if you could tell me where I may be able to find
out more about this topic. Also I would need to get technical picture and
design ideas, is this possible considering this is a military project? If you
could help me it would be fantastic !! Many thanks for taking the time to read
this message. Webmaster's Note: The

Comments: I was
born in the hospital at the air station in July 1944, when my father was
stationed there. He was a radioman on the K-111, which crashed on Catalina
Island in October 1944. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who knows
or remembers anything about the crash. All my life, I've named Tillamook, OR,
as where I was born, but I grew up in Kansas and haven't been back to Tillamook
since I was four months old. I still hope to visit one day. |
